Böljan is a residential block in the neighbourhood “HammarbySjöstad”, Stockholm. The project is a collaboration with KOD Architects who designed the residential building.

The design of the courtyard is based upon the residential neighbourhood structure. The colour green is the recurring theme. Two large areas provide space for greenery, residence and playfulness. Selected corners in the elevated floors of the yard are angled upwards to create a good soil depth for planting of trees, shrubs and perennials. These elevated corners are placed at the entrances to the courtyard and provide a welcoming greenery. The surfaces consist of large perennial plants with hints of trees, shrubs, grass surfaces, playful rubber surfaces and a wooden deck that can be used as a common patio. All vertical elements in the courtyard such as edges and walls are built of wood.

Architect: Sofia Nylen and Veronika Borg. The project was implemented during employment for Grontmij AB. Client: Riksbyggen Klas Spångberg. PEAB Housing, John Ax-Riise. Project: Program and planning. Built: 2008-09
