The Varvstaden projekt is a proposal to the structure plan and design program for Varvsstaden at Western Harbour , Malmö. Varvsstaden is an urban development site in Malmö where Kockums former industrial area has been transformed into an attractive and sustainable neighborhood. Kockums was for more than 100 years Malmö's industrial heart and of crucial importance for the city's development. The site is transformed into an attractive and sustainable district with unique values. A sensual and integrated relationship between existing and remodeled buildings creates a unique neighborhood with exciting variations in the scales and experiences. In Varvsstaden there are both intimate and contemplative green spaces as well as open and active urban parks. Townhouses paired with a major brand building in the background of the Varvsplatsen site and open water of the harbor basin. The public paths are lined partly by historic buildings, partly of newly created more intimate living environments. The main paths, the squares and the older industrial halls are open for a diverse range of shops and public qualites. Children and young people have a strong connection to the area's identity as schools and day care may take place in the former industrial buildings.
The work is performed as a parallel assignment.
